Discovering entertaining and beneficial games to play with your dog is one of the nicest aspects of owning a dog. Exercise that stimulates both the body and the mind is a fantastic way to keep your dog healthy. It makes your bond stronger as well.
There are plenty of methods to keep your dog (and you) engaged almost anyplace, whether it’s through interactive games you can teach them to play with treats as a reward or by finding cerebral games for dogs.
Games to Play With Your Dog
1. Fetch
Being one of the most popular games ever derived, fetch really gets most of the dogs and their owners moving. You just need a yard, a park, or even a field with a tennis ball or a Frisbee, and you are in for some fun with your excited dog.
Fetch is an excellent game to have with energetic dogs. They get plenty of exercise, and they can allow their running instinct to be followed. Providing your dog with lots of toys to chase will not only stimulate them physically but also mentally. A frisbee would provide an even greater challenge by being harder to catch but more pleasurable to catch in flight.
Now, make it exciting for your dog by changing the height and the distance of your throws, and even in different directions. Keep on rewording your dog every time they hand over their toy to you so that you get a chance to throw it one more time.
2. Game of Tug
Another timeless activity that most dogs love to indulge in is tug of war. Indoor or outdoor, tugging-of-war games turn into great fun and a physical activity for your dog. Moreover, tugging and pulling reward them physically. Never play any game with your dog when you are overexcited, and also keep children away.
The following is what you need to be aware of: be careful playing tug of war with a puppy.
Memorize that there are baby teeth in the mouth, which at times can be tender. Only pull on things gently, and only a little at a time. If they wish to play and this is not enough, then try other activities.
While playing tug of war with your dog, remember the condition of his teeth and gums. You wouldn’t want to use something that will further irritate their oral mucosa. You can make use of a soft rubber dog toy or even a rope. With the cases of neck and back injuries recorded, before consulting with your vet, you may rather want to consider another exercise in its place.
3. Hide the Treat or Hide & Seek
If you are up for some psychologically stimulating activities for dogs, then hide-the-treat will do just that; one of those few enrichment games that really does turn out to be fun and engaging for a dog—it’s a problem to solve. Literally, all you do is just rub this reward around a few times along a path to where it’s going to be hidden, then place it somewhere hard for your dog to get to.
Now, using terms like “hot” and “cold,” describe the treat when your dog comes close to and farther away from it. Their listening will sharpen with shifts in tone from a very serious “cold” to a light, lively “warm” or “hot,” but it takes some practice before they fully get it.
4. Chase the Prey
Permit your dog to run free where it is not going to be surprised by squirrels scurrying up trees. The big flirt—flirt pole that is. A flirt pole, in a nutshell, is a long stick or pole with a rope affixed to one end. You can purchase one, or make one with a little elbow grease.
Attach a toy to the flirt pole’s rope and slowly start to pull it. Have your dog prepare to jump by periodically stopping the rope in movement so that he gets an opportunity to leap for the toy. To keep up the interest level and build confidence, periodically allow him to “catch” the toy as a reward.
5. Agility Training
It is agility training that would take your dog to one step higher with respect, as the highest exercise that gives both physical and mental exercise to dogs. This will help your dog take out the extra energy and tire him so that he is able to sleep the good sleep or even nap long.
Create an obstacle course from things lying around the house for the park or yard. Be imaginative with open boxes to jump over and cones to weave between. Teach them how to jump through a hula hoop; when practiced well, you can reward them with candy.

Avoid Overstimulation
Dogs may enjoy a variety of games both indoors and outside. Playing with your dog is a great way to improve your relationship, but stay away from play that is overly aggressive or overstimulating.
When you’re both enjoying themselves, make sure to call it a play session. Instead than leaving your dog worn out and disheartened, this makes them eager for their next playtime.
